The Mediterranean is particularly vulnerable to climate change, evidenced by recent disasters such as large-scale flash flooding in Valencia. UMAR (Union of Mediterranean Architects) connects architects, institutions and governments at all levels—local, national and international—to help prevent and provide a response to these disasters. At CONSTRUMAT, specific emergency actions in Egypt, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Turkey, Portugal, Spain and other countries will be examined, analysed and discussed, as well as laying the groundwork for future collaboration with the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean and UNESCO.

As the industrial ecosystem of the European construction sector, Metabuilding promotes innovation and the emergence of new technologies for a sustainable, connected, resilient, scalable, competitive, durable, and inclusive Built Environment.

Metabuilding Labs is an Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB) for the Built environment, providing over 100 testing infrastructures, capabilities, and services essential for developing, testing, certificating, and scaling-up new construction components.

Social housing is one of the most regulated building types, and standards meant to ensure quality often lead to standardisation, limiting experimentation. Yet, the increasing diversity in households and lifestyles demands innovation over outdated models. With thirty years of housing practice and projects across Europe—in London, Paris, Brussels, Geneva, and Vienna—I argue we must remain ‘resolutely optimistic’. Designing housing involves navigating spatial and budgetary limits, strict codes, and sustainability goals, while challenging a profit-driven industry. It also requires rethinking the individual–collective relationship and co-designing with communities to meet real needs. The rising interest in reusing and renovating existing buildings may offer a path to challenge current regulations and industry norms, enabling the change we need.

This architectural project addresses the renovation and modernization of the headquarters building of the Department of Vocational Training in Rabat, with a focus on biohabitability and energy efficiency. The intervention proposes both an aesthetic and functional update of the building, incorporating a green façade and a double stone skin to improve thermal and acoustic performance. In addition, the interior layout is optimized to promote transparency and flexibility, incorporating universal accessibility standards. The sustainability strategy includes the use of renewable energy, efficient water management, and reduced environmental impact during the construction process. This project aims not only to modernize the building’s institutional image but also to enhance the comfort and well-being of its occupants through innovative and ecological architectural solutions.

The Construction Labour Foundation is firmly committed to promoting and informing all workers in the industry on the different innovations which have a direct application to the construction industry as they are being introduced to the field of prevention. This is done through different channels, such as the web portal Línea Prevención, the PRL BIM application, 360º Preventive Practices Centre, and involving different tools as well like the AI cutting machine, special anti-heat stress clothing and other equipment for this purpose, close sheeting, machinery simulators, VR glasses, etc., as well as different digital tools at the service of the construction industry.

Following the severe flooding episode in Valencia caused by the DANA storm on October 29, the College of Civil Engineers, in collaboration with the College of Technical Engineering in Public and Civil Works, is organizing this roundtable to analyze climate mitigation and resilience policies in response to extreme weather events.

Social housing. A proposal that seeks to soften the strong image of a building of such size by folding it into a gentle zigzag, using parallelepipeds that gradually rotate, ensuring that the orthogonal shape and structure of the apartments is never compromised. It explores how sustainable design principles can help mitigate the effects of extreme weather events through solutions that enhance city resilience and the well-being of residents. Using representative examples from Batlleiroig, the session presents innovative strategies to integrate water as a fundamental element in urban planning.

Roundtable discussion on the current housing crisis in Spain and Catalonia, focusing on access difficulties, rising prices, and the lack of public housing stock. We will analyze the structural and social causes of this crisis and discuss possible solutions from both the public and private sectors. A space for reflection with expert voices from the region.

According to the 2019 European Green Deal, the EU must become a net-zero emissions continent by 2050. Buildings account for up to 40% of CO₂ emissions in Europe, so we must make decisive progress toward designing and constructing energy-neutral buildings.

This session will propose a general strategy for designing net-zero buildings, based on three stages:

Maximum reduction of the building’s energy demand.

Optimization of consumption by installing highly efficient systems that use the minimum amount of energy to meet that optimized demand.

Generation of the required energy through clean, renewable sources.

Proper design of a building’s electromechanical systems is essential to implement this optimization strategy.

Did you know that the built environment affects your health more than you might think? Air quality, materials, lighting, and noise all influence well-being. However, measuring these impacts in isolation gives us only a partial view of the issue. In this talk, we will explore how digitalization and data analysis help us understand the relationship between the built environment and health.

The promotion and construction of affordable and social housing is not incompatible with housing dignity, and even less so with sustainability. The economic efforts required to achieve these goals are not especially high, although special attention must be paid to project design and the development of public-private collaboration models. There are already some successful examples.

La Termal is a private development of 14 apartments located in La Garriga and part of the European research program REN+HOMES. Built using the Evowall industrialized system, in collaboration with Roig Construccions, the building achieves the Passivhaus Plus standard. This high efficiency is one of the key aspects for achieving positive energy buildings. The project demonstrates the potential of industrialization to accelerate the ecological transition.

A Talent Job Marketplace is a networking space that brings together companies from the same sector and candidates for published job offers. On this occasion, the event will take place at the Construmat'25 Fair. Participating companies will present who they are, the values they stand for, and the profiles they are seeking—all related to the construction sector. Afterwards, they will conduct job interviews with candidates preselected by Barcelona Activa.

In this presentation, we will introduce the Ion Riva project, located in Riva, on the northern side of Istanbul. Ion Riva is designed as a unique lifestyle destination where nature, culture, art, and healthy living are harmoniously combined. Design, engineering and construction of mega projects under fast track scheme have certain requirements from project management point of view. This is independent of the type of the structure. SOCOTEC is optimizing its engineering services through the implementation of generative AI via its BlueGen platform. This enables safer and more efficient use of project data, as well as the rapid generation of pilot projects.
In this talk, we will address how AI is used to improve inspections, perform predictive risk analyses, and streamline certification processes. We will also present the use cases we are developing at SOCOTEC to support asset management tools and the monitoring of critical infrastructure.

The Total Thermal Shield (TTS) is an insulating membrane with high-vacuum micro-ceramic particles and nanostructured titanium dioxide, which, when applied to a surface, reflects infra-red rays, providing excellent thermal insulation, waterproofing, anti-condensation and fire resistance qualities. Simple to apply and environmentally friendly, the TTS can theoretically reduce a home's heating and air conditioning costs by up to 30-50%.

A unique "rehabilitation" by b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos: On top of a base created after the partial demolition of the pre-existing building, a new efficient, representative, and functional structure is built, featuring a modular prefabricated façade made of elements adapted to different climate and lighting conditions.

This panel will bring together ROIG and Culmia to discuss how industrialisation, modular construction and innovative building systems are redefining the sector. ROIG, an industry-leading company, has implemented industrialised construction techniques that allow for faster and more precise project execution. Culmia, a real estate development leader, has incorporated modern methods to improve efficiency and sustainability in its developments. Through case studies and shared experiences, the panel will delve into how the integration of these new construction methods can improve productivity, reduce costs and minimise the environmental impact during construction.

The core concept of SNUG is to develop an innovative methodology to support builders and architects during the design and planning phases of renovation works or new construction. It helps select the optimal combination of materials, solutions, and thermal insulation layout to maximize the reduction of GHG emissions over the building’s lifetime. In this sense, the project aims to develop and demonstrate a methodology that assists planners in maximizing energy efficiency and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.

In this session, we will explore the implementation of artificial intelligence at Alsina and the company's future strategy in this field. We will review the evolution from the first AI agent created five years ago to the current use of digital agents, as well as the challenges and opportunities we face. The session will feature Marc Forte and Pere Olivé, heads of digitalization and processes.

Gamification and innovation at the service of a sector that must renew itself to connect with younger audiences.

The College of Technical Architecture of Barcelona will organize a roundtable to analyze the evolution of artificial intelligence over the past year and its integration into the construction sector. The session will cover recent advancements, practical day-to-day applications, and real-world experiences in construction projects. It will conclude with a future outlook and recommendations to drive digital transformation and align with the regulatory framework.

Despite the strong performance of the construction sector in recent years, it faces major challenges in finding workers to carry out construction projects—particularly among young people. This issue is exacerbated by the underrepresentation of women in construction and the aging workforce, for which there is no generational replacement. Projects like PACT4YOUTH and Foundations for Employment are launching a range of training and employment initiatives aimed at reversing this situation.

How can corporate social impact initiatives unlock talent, build more inclusive industries, and create long-term value for communities? This session explores the key insights gained from Limak Holding's experience on social impact initiatives, with a focus on the Global Engineer Girls program– supporting young women to pursue careers in STEM. It highlights how businesses can move beyond traditional CSR to create lasting change in the construction and engineering sectors, proving that genuine impact and business success are not mutually exclusive.

This event explores the remarkable stories of cities around the world that have successfully recovered, focusing on how they are rebuilding and renovating themselves in the wake of disasters. Each path to a renewed urban vitality presents its own challenges and opportunities, revealing a wide range of innovative and sustainable recovery strategies. We will delve into these inspiring processes of urban resilience, highlighting diverse approaches to said rebuilding, which exemplify both local contexts and world-wide best practices. The presentation will be moderated by a UN-Habitat urban resilience expert and will conclude with a dynamic question and answer session, encouraging active participation and the exchange of ideas.
