Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture
Barcelona is a city of architecture due to the beauty and uniqueness of many of its buildings, the way in which it cares for its architectural heritage going back centuries and its ongoing desire to provide welcoming, accessible and inclusive public spaces.
UNESCO-UIA has awarded it the title of 2026 World Capital of Architecture. The architecture, urban planning and landscaping of this diverse and dense city, with limited natural resources and a Mediterranean climate (sweet and sunny, but beset by droughts and heat waves) face challenges in terms of economic, social and environmental sustainability.
