The decarbonisation of the building sector is a priority within the current context, in which the focus is being placed on traditional materials such as concrete, steel and ceramics. However, the potential of design to achieve effective decarbonisation throughout the structure’s entire life cycle is not appreciated. The session will analyse the technological potential of concrete to achieve carbon-neutral buildings and present real cases of concrete buildings with a reduced carbon footprint with respect to the current standards.

Khanvian is an exclusive system patented by PMP that constitutes a major advance for construction, as it involves industrialising 80% of the production process, manufacturing everything from the envelope to the interior partitions with the facilities that have been incorporated from the factory. The system can relocate the interior partitions to change the layout of the house. The home thus becomes a space that easily adapts to the needs that arise during its owners’ lives.

The projects are unique, as is our way of building them. 

A practical demonstration and realisation of façade and interior coatings using lime as a natural, extremely durable and highly breathable construction material. Combined with exterior insulating elements for façades, ideal for bio-construction. We’ll demonstrate how a sgraffito with relief is made at a live event, with examples of different sgraffiti, stucco, fire ironing and glazing finishes.

Fibres are elements with a geometry and density that are different from those of aggregates and cement. Incorporating fibres into the concrete mass affects its rheology (consistency). If the recommendations for the maximum aggregate size, form of dispersion and number of additives aren’t taken into account, the on-site finishing becomes more difficult, which may have an impact in terms of time and costs. Mixtures will be prepared in situ, varying the parameters for them and measuring the flow by means of the Abrahams cone test. Based on this experience the participants will be able to see the changes in the concrete mix for themselves.
